Getting Around in San Fransisco:

1. The best way to get to know the city is with a hop on/hop off bus tour. These double-decker buses take you to all the main spots and give you a tour along the way. You will see these buses advertised all over, just make sure when you are ready ride you know where the stops are.

2. Rather than wait in line for the trolley at Powell Street or Fisherman’s Warf, walk a couple of blocks down the track to a nearby stop and skip the line.

3. The trolley costs $5 to ride. It is worth it to ride once for the fun of it, but it is not an efficient means of transportation. Rather than buy a 3 day trolley pass, you can take bus or light rail for about a dollar.

4. If you are visiting San Francisco and going for a night out, make sure that your hotel is either in walking distance of the bar/club you are going to, or you have the number for a cab to call. The BART (public method of transportation similar to Metro, or Trolley) is a great and reliable way to get to the destination from your hotel, but it stops running around 12:45 am on Friday and Saturday nights. Unless you call to reserve a cab, they can be hard to find late at night when the bars are closing.
