Getting Around in Mexico City:
1. The best way to get to know the city is with a hop on/hop off bus tour. (Turibus) These double-decker buses take you to all the main spots and give you a tour along the way. You will see these buses advertised all over, just make sure when you are ready ride you know where the stops are.

2. If you are taking a cab in Mexico City, be sure to have lots of small bills on you. Unlike in the US, it is not an expectation that Mexican cab drivers should be able to break large bills for you, and you may be forced to leave your driver with a ridiculously large tip!

3. Have your hotel call the taxis for you, they will be safer. However, make sure to ask the price up front. They may try to send you a luxury taxi such as a Lincoln. You do not have to take these taxis, they are much more expensive. The hotel can call a regular radio taxi which is safer than a street taxis but more reasonably priced. If the hotel does end up calling you a fancy taxi and the fare is too high, you can say no and ask the hotel to get you different type of cab.
