You Must Know from Koh Samui:
Unless you want to stay on Koh Samui to be near the full moon party, I don't recommend this island. It is big, spread out, the beaches aren't anything special, and all around it just isn't as nice as the other islands.

What to Do in Koh Samui:
BEWARE of the Thai Massage. This is nothing like a Swedish massage. They twist and turn you so that you walk out of the parlor feeling like you were in a fight.

Getting Around in Koh Samui:
1. If you want to go anywhere on the island outside your hotel, you must have a car or bike. The only way to get around the island is to drive and the taxis are very overpriced.

2. If you are planning to go to the full moon party, there are boats that run from Koh Samui to Koh Phangan, where the party is. Getting to Koh Phangan is easy; it's getting back that is more difficult. There was a mad rush of people trying to get on the boats back. We had to wait knee deep in the water to get on and literally fight people out of the way. It was quite an experience getting on the boat. One on the boat, getting back was fine. Just be prepared for utter chaos.

3. If you take a bus/ferry package between the islands, Know that if you are behind by even a few minutes, the WILL leave you. I took a bus/ferry package to get from Koh Samui to Koh Pi Pi, via Krabi. When we got off the boat, we took five minutes to get some food to-go. In those few minutes, the bus left us and we had to pay a taxi a fortune to catch up to the bus.
