Getting Around in Pondicherry:

If you cannot secure a train booking to your desired destination (i.e. because it is full) book the same train to a destination one station further. Typically you would only have to pay and addition Rs. 50/ - 100/ for the ticket. It will then allow you to a light at the station of your desire i.e. the station before where your train journey is supposed to end. If you're thinking this doesn't make sense, you are right, but apparently it works.

Lodging in Pondicherry:

During peak tourist season rather than using email to enquire and confirm accommodation pick up the phone and ring. Rooms will not necessarily be held for dates that you submit an enquiry on. The majority of accommodation has round 5-10 rooms which books up quickly often weeks in advance. Try to stay in the French quarter, it is gorgeous.
