1. Leave extra space.

When you back, leave extra space in your suitcase for souvenirs and purchases. If you have an expandable suitcase, don’t use the expandable part because you will need the extra space for your return. Things never seem to fit the same way when you pack to return home.

2. Use Zip-lock bags.

Zip-lock bags are great for organizing underwear, socks, etc. Also use them to pack your toiletries so that if anything leaks, it won’t ruin your clothes or suitcase.

3. Carry valuables with you.

You never know who will be snooping in your suitcase, so carry your jewelry, digital camera, and any other valuables with you.

4. Buy luggage that is recognizable.

Be brave with your color choice. Luggage that is easy to identify is harder to lose. If you have generic black luggage, attach a luggage tag that will make it more easily identifiable.

5. Attach your name and phone number.

In case your luggage is lost, or someone picks it up by mistake, make sure your luggage has a tag with your name and phone number.

6. Remove all tags.

Before you fly, remove all previous luggage labels to make sure the airport can identify the right destination.

7. Buy travel insurance.

Buy travel insurance that covers lost luggage. Just in case something happens you will be covered.

8. Use your shoes.

Put socks or other small items inside your shoes to save space.

9. Check the weather.

Check the weather at your destination, so you can plan your outfits ahead and avoid over packing.

10. Weight your suitcase.

Make sure your suitcase is within the weight restrictions of the airline to avoid paying extra.

11. Check your toiletries.

If you are going to carry on your toiletries, make sure they comply with security regulations. They must me a particular size and must be contained in a Zip-lock bag.
